Veterans Hockey United was founded in 2019 by a small group of active-duty service members and veterans who shared two things: a love for hockey, and the camaraderie of military service. What started as a way for teammates to keep showing up for each other after the uniform came off has grown into a federally recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit and a national network of active-duty service members, veterans, and military dependents from every branch of the armed forces. Run entirely by volunteers, VHU fields teams in regional and national tournaments, hosts charity games that give back to veteran causes, and creates space for teammates to support each other on and off the ice. Hockey is the common ground; the brotherhood is the mission.
